Gut-healthy Avocado Crema

As a MS in Nutrition and Integrative Health, I’m always looking for simple, flavorful ways to elevate everyday meals, made with ingredients that support health and taste incredible. This avocado crema is one of my favorite ways to upgrade taco night. It’s creamy, zesty, and comes together in minutes with nourishing, whole food ingredients. It’s inspired by my heritage, and is sure to become one of your fave easy recipes!

Whether you’re making tacos, burrito bowls, or just want a dairy-free dip to keep in the fridge, this one’s a must-try. The coconut yogurt makes it super smooth without needing sour cream, and the lime + jalapeño give it just the right amount of zing. Make this, and you’ll never eat another boring taco again!

Functional Nutrition Breakdown

Avocado = fiber, potassium, and healthy fats: Avocados are packed with heart-supportive monounsaturated fats and are one of the richest fruit sources of potassium, often overlooked but key for blood pressure and nerve function. They also deliver fiber, which helps support digestion and blood sugar balance (1 whole Hass avocado contains approximately 13-14 g of fiber).

Coconut yogurt = dairy-free creaminess + probiotics: Using plain, unsweetened coconut yogurt adds a subtle tang and creaminess, while keeping this crema dairy-free. Look for one with live active cultures for a little gut support, too.

Lime + garlic = flavor with function: Fresh lime juice brings more than just acidity, it’s rich in vitamin C which improves iron absorption from plant-based foods.. And garlic? It’s been studied for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and heart-supportive properties. Remember to crush garlic and let it sit for 10 minutes before using it in a recipe (allows allinase to oconver to allicin, the main bioactive compound in garlic with health benefits).
